Can I get infected when vaccinated?

When you are fully vaccinated, vaccination protects you from becoming seriously ill or even dying of Corona. However, there are people who contract Corona despite being vaccinated. This may be due to the following reasons:

The person had been infected shortly before vaccination, meaning the virus was already in the body at the time of vaccination. This can happen as roughly 5-6 days may pass between infection and outbreak of the disease.

The person has been infected in the first days after vaccination. Full immunisation develops only a few days after vaccination.

The third possibility is a so-called breakthrough infection. This means the person has contracted the Corona virus despite full vaccination. In such an instance the person will most likely have only a mild case of Corona – meaning mild, flu-like symptoms.
